Education, the most valuable inheritance that parents could give to their children inspired the people of Ilayang Yuni to work on and inculcate in the minds of their beloved children the importance of pursuing higher education for their own betterment. The community's desire and eagerness to send their youth to high school paved way to the establishment of Ilayang Yuni National High School, on February 1978 through the effort of Brgy. Captain Herculano Pardilla, the duly elected barangay captain of Ilayang Yuni during that time and the school site of 10,575sq.m. was donated through the kindness of Mr. Valentine Bico, a native resident of the barangay. It started with __ enrollees who were not all natives of the barangay but residents of neighboring areas such as Matataja, Pakiing, Patabog and Ibabang Yuni. Mrs. Evelyn P. Deveza now Mrs. Evelyn D. Ricana and Mrs. Lourdes G. Nambio, former Ms. Lourdes E. Garcia were the first teachersof the sschool. The continuous increase in population every year led to the hiring of Mrs. Estrella T. Ramos, Mr. Monselle M. Garcia, Mrs. Fraternidad G. Hidalgo and Ms. Oliva M. Gatdula now Mrs. Oliva G. Robles.
For several years the school existed under the supervision of Ilayang Yuni Elementary School Principal and the students were paying tuition fees for the salary of teachers.
Through the years the enrolment of the school increased. More teachers were hired and more buildings were built. Improvised classrooms made of native materials were changed to concrete ones and more facilities and aids came.
Year 1989 when the nomenclature Ilayang Yuni Barangay High School was changed to Ilayang Yuni National High School as approved by the Secretary of Department Education formerly known as Department of Education, Culture and Sports. Since then, students of Ilayang Yuni National High School are enjoying free education.

Ilayang Yuni National High School in its existence had truimhantly surpassed all the challenges, trials and struggles that test the stability of the school. Its pursuit in producing productive and academically competitive students had been successfully realized for the school is now one of the performing schools in Mulanay and had gone for in academic, sports,co-curricular and extra-curricular competitions not only in the district level but also in the cluster, division and even in regional level competitions particularly in the STEP Skills Competitions.
Recently, Ilayang Yuni National High School was awarded by the Solid Waste Management Committee of the Local Government of Mulanay as the Cleanest and Greenest Learning Institution in Mulanay District (secondary level) on February 1, 2008 and declared as Champion during the First Coco- Lunay Festival Street Dancing Competition on February 3, 2008 and also awarded as Best in Costume
